WHAT IS CASH-BASED PHYSICAL THERAPY?
In a cash-based treatment model, the physical therapist enters a contract with the patient to provide physical therapy services in a manner that both parties have determined will help them reach treatment goals most efficiently. The patient pays at the time of service, allowing the therapist to focus attention on providing the best possible service while keeping administrative costs low. You may pay for services using Physical cash, a check, or a credit or debit card.
CAN MY INSURANCE BE BILLED FOR CASH-BASED PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICES?
Most insurance companies, with the exception of Medicare, Medicaid and some HMOs, will provide partial payment for services received "out of network". Going out of the network means that you can choose to see a physical therapist who is not a participating provider within your insurance’s network. Many patients opt to receive services out of network to have the freedom of selecting their preferred physical therapist, and ultimately receiving better care. When services are provided to a patient, the insurance company will normally reimburse the provider for the payment. In a cash-base situation, a patient would submit a claim to their insurance provider for the services they received and wait to be reimbursed directly.
THE THERAPIST PROVIDING SERVICES AT SWIFT SWIFT PHYSICAL THERAPY’S THERAPIST IS AN OUT OF NETWORK PROVIDER. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
SWIFT has decided to be an out-of-network provider because directly taking insurance does not support our treatment philosophy. Therapists in clinics that bill insurance directly often have to see 2 or usually more patients per hour. They have to do this because insurance companies will reimburse clinics only about half of what they actually bill. As a result, insurances indirectly dictate or influence the treatment that patients get, and this is not our model. Our founder has decided not to enter a contract with individual insurance companies. There are many insurance companies, each with their own contracted rates and regulations, that do not always guarantee experienced providers with the skill sets and education that it takes to provide the best treatment for their patients. At SWIFT Physical Therapy, we take pride in working with our patients and their needs by providing the most exceptional and personable, one on one care for the patient. SWIFT believes in hand-on treatment and giving patients the tools to treat themselves, therefore, there are few to no modalities used and patients are taught to perform exercises at home. Our specialist wants to provide you with the service you deserve, and our reviews and experience speaks for itself.
WILL I END UP PAYING MORE FOR CASH-BASED PHYSICAL THERAPY?
In many cases, the out-of-pocket expenses for a course of physical therapy will be much less for services provided at SWIFT Physical Therapy. In large, we have the capacity to do this because these charges will be well below the national average claim submitted to insurance in a typical fee for service, outpatient practice. SWIFT Physical Therapy has the ability to charge significantly less because the simplified cash-based fee structure streamlines billing and helps to avoid all the administrative and overhead costs of maintaining a billing system. This allows SWIFT Physical Therapy staff to focus all energy on patient care and allows patients to make informed decisions regarding the costs of their health care choices, and only pay for services that are customized to their desired needs.
WHAT STEPS ARE INVOLVED IN SUBMITTING A CLAIM TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY?
The process is quite simple: SWIFT Physical Therapy will provide you with an invoice at the time of service, and you may submit that invoice and receipt as a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement. The invoice will contain all necessary information (business name and address, tax ID, national provider identification, license numbers, etc.) as well as the patient’s ICD-10 (diagnosis) and CPT (billing) codes. You may choose to submit bills following each visit, one time per month, or at any other interval, typically up to one year following your treatment visit. You can check your insurance provider’s reimbursement policy for additional information.
SWIFT will provide you with the necessary documentation to receive reimbursement available from your personal health insurance if you are planning to submit for reimbursement or payment toward your deductible. Prior to your first visit you should call your insurance company. Ask about reimbursement for out-of-network physical therapy expenses and make sure there are no other requirements like a pre-authorization before you get started.
